Remembrance Day Assembly
On November 10, Chaoyin Bilingual School held a heartfelt Remembrance Day assembly, beginning with the singing of the national anthem and a land acknowledgement. We recognized and respected the traditional and unceded territories on which we gather, and reflected on the shared history and sacrifices made for our freedom.
The assembly commenced with a moment of silence, as everyone stood together, honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve. This brief but powerful tribute set a respectful tone for the student presentations to follow.
Each class took turns presenting in honor of Remembrance Day. Our kindergarten students began with a touching performance of Little Poppy, reminding us of the significance of this symbol of remembrance. The grade 1 students then recited The Serving Soldier, followed by the grade 2 class, who shared their reflections on the question, “What does peace mean to you?”
The grade 3 students expressed the meaning of Remembrance Day through their own words, and the grade 4 class delivered a moving recitation of In Flanders Fields. The assembly continued with the grade 5/6 students, who presented on the theme, “What does freedom mean to you?”
The assembly closed with a combined performance of Imagine by students from grades 3, 4, and 5/6, symbolizing hopes for a future of peace and unity. To maintain the solemn atmosphere, attendees were asked to refrain from applause, allowing the focus to remain on reflection and remembrance.
As we concluded, we thanked all participants and guests for being part of this special assembly. We encourage everyone to carry the spirit of remembrance with them into the weekend and Remembrance Day itself. Thank you to our students, staff, and parents for making this a thoughtful and memorable occasion.
