Chaoyin Bilingual School Hosts Grand Chinese New Year Celebration

Richmond, BC – On January 28, 2025, Chaoyin Bilingual School held a vibrant and culturally enriching Chinese New Year celebration, bringing together students, parents, and staff to welcome the Year of the Snake with joy and enthusiasm.

The event began with a warm welcome from student hosts, who greeted parents in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. Principal Mr. Fraser then delivered his heartfelt New Year wishes, setting the stage for a series of exciting performances that showcased the school’s commitment to Chinese cultural education.

Throughout the celebration, students from various grades presented diverse performances, including traditional Guzheng music, classical poetry recitations, and folk songs. The Kindergarten class delighted the audience with the song Gong Xi Gong Xi, while Grade 1 students performed The Enlightenment of Rhymes, demonstrating their grasp of classical Chinese phonetics. Grade 2 students delivered a powerful recitation of Will Enter Wine by the legendary poet Li Bai, capturing the grandeur of Chinese poetry.

The celebration continued with Grade 3 presenting Chengyu Blessings for the New Year, creatively incorporating idioms into a festive song. Grade 4 students brought Chinese shadow puppetry to life with a dramatic performance of The Monkey King Fights the White Bone Demon, mesmerizing the audience with this ancient art form. Grade 5 and 6 students performed Lichun, a song honoring the arrival of spring and new beginnings, reinforcing the theme of renewal and prosperity.

The event concluded with a choir performance of Little Happiness, leaving attendees with a warm and hopeful message for the year ahead. Before dispersing to explore interactive game booths, student hosts expressed gratitude to teachers, parents, and classmates for their contributions in making the celebration a success.

This lively and engaging event not only deepened students’ appreciation for Chinese culture but also strengthened the school community’s spirit.
